StarCraft II – continuation of the epic saga of three powerful races: Protoss, and Zerg terran space. They will again come together in battle in the new strategy in real time, the continuation of the legendary game StarCraft. In this brutal struggle for survival in space at your disposal will be a new combat units, and the old, with extended capabilities.
Even though at its most basic level a lot of the game is familiar, much has been adjusted. In no area is this more apparent than in the single-player campaign. Blizzard’s decision to split the overall story of StarCraft II into three parts sparked some controversy when it was first announced; basically that means you only get to play as the Terran faction (with a few exceptions) for the solo portion, and must wait until later for the Zerg and Protoss campaigns to be released to see the entirety of the story. While that affects some of the impact of the tale, it in no way means you’ll be starved for content if all you’re looking to do in StarCraft II is play alone. There’s a huge campaign here that could easily take many hours to play through (depending on your style and level of difficulty). It’s all exceedingly well presented, with a totally reworked narrative delivery system, a few instances of choice driving the story, and options for inter-mission upgrades that make it feel like more of an role-playing experience than a series of mission that exist solely to get you ready for the multiplayer.

Snowboarding games are a rare commodity. It's been a long time since anyone made a snowboarding game in the spirit of 1080° and the original Amped. Ubisoft is bringing back the magic in mid-November with Shaun White Snowboarding on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360. Think of it like EA's Skate, only on a snowboard. SWS features four massive mountains that are completely open from the start. There are no tricks to unlock, just four special moves to complete some specific missions. Otherwise, you are pretty much able to pull off any trick you want from the get-go if you have the talent.

Tricks are really easy to pull off. Once in the air, move the Right Thumbstick in a direction for a grab. Click in on the thumbstick to open a second set of moves. You can tweak grabs with the trigger as well. The Left Thumbstick controls spins and flips and is used to balance yourself before landing. It's that's simple. While it might take you a run or two down one of the mountains to get comfortable with the system, it's easy to master. And once you do have the moves mastered, there's a lot of fun to be had with Shaun White.

While you don't upgrade your snowboarder, you will purchase new boards that have properties to increase your stats. Better boards give you more speed and air, better cutting on the snow, etc. You'll also find that the higher those stats grow, the less "forgiveness" you get from your board. Though your starting board is weak, its level of forgiveness on landings is mindboggling. You'll certainly put face to powder once in a while, but you'll also land tricks that would be physically impossible to walk away from. The pay-off for more air and faster speeds is a drop in forgiveness. That's how Shaun White gets you to up your own game. You want to go big? You better be able to nail your landings. Should you bail, SWS doesn't punish you too greatly. You'll lose your multiplier, but you'll hop up and keep on down the slope within a few seconds. This way you don't lose the flow. As much as I love a good bail, it is nice not to lose 15 seconds of time watching my character bounce around.

Now, when I say the mountains are big, I mean it. Riding from the top all the way down can take 10 minutes. It's not only a long ride down, but there are plenty of divergent paths. There's no way you can see everything on the first ride down. Each mountain has its own persona, which isn't easy to pull off considering they all have snow and trees. Park City has the old mine and the bobsleigh track, Europe has the plane crash site (don't worry, we didn't know them) and the monorail, and Alaska has the pipeline and dense trees.

Shaun White Snowboarding gives the player, as the title suggests, a snowboard and sends him off to four ski run locations around the world (Europe, Alaska, Japan and a fictitious location called Park City) under the watchful eye of professional snowboarder Shaun White himself as well as other professionals, moderators, pilots and such. But before the player can go on the slope, he has to create his character by choosing not only from different body looks but also from different clothes and snowboards. During the course of the game the player earns money by completing the challenges which can in return be invested in more stylized clothes and additional types of snowboards. Each of the boards has six stats like balance or speed and not all of them are the best possible option for every given situation. While in a race speed is an important factor, a board with a higher rating in rotation allows for better stunts.

The game puts the player in an open world with him free to roam around the slope as he pleases. Several lifts and even a helicopter bring him to different starting locations but if he wants, he can also walk and discover hidden areas by doing so. By doing tricks, with controls using mainly the analog sticks similar to Skate, the player earns respect points. And on the track are, besides many obstacles to perform tricks on, challenges like the Jibfest, in which only tricks on rails and boxes count or Freestyle in which every trick counts. Others include the Death Race, in which the player needs to get to the goal before everyone else but as the name suggests, everything is allowed including ramming opponents and throwing snowballs to get them off-balance. There are also some challenges like King of the Hill that can only be done with at least one other human player joining in.

Gray Matter - a very controversial project. The plot is obvious artistic value, wonderfully written and voiced dialogue in combination with organically woven into the fabric of the narrative gameplay.

Neurobiologist David Stiles, a few years ago has lost his wife in a car accident, a great believer in the limitless possibilities of the brain and, despite the tragedy, as far as research continues. To prepare for a series of experiments, the scientist-recluse hires assistant, but had been sent from the college girl indulges his heels, not risking to call at the door. Stampede watching another young lady, tramp Samantha Everett, fated to "park" at the gates of the gloomy mansion. Not wanting to spend the night in the rain in the company of a broken bike, Samantha pretends to be a new employee and get inside. Then, of course, nothing but trouble. In the campus of Oxford is going hell, in a country house here and there flashed a ghost of itself and the question arises whether such a chance was the death of his wife Stiles.

Videogames never cease to surprise. If before playing this you asked me to bet what I thought my introduction would contain, I'd have put serious money on some manner of the usual leftist pinko Guardian reading nonsense that Walker and I end up crowbaring into our reviews much to everyone's embarrassment. Evens odds on it featuring the line "We'll stop putting politics into our reviews when developers stop putting politics into their games". But no. Heavens above: tastelessness is the least of the War on Terror's problems.

Despite its 'torn from the headlines' name, it's not particularly weighted in the real world. It offers three sides to play on and a campaign of each to play through. That is, the World Forces (i.e. America and chums), The Order (i.e. non-threateningly unspecific group of Terrorists) and China (i.e. China). Its key design points are based around a lack of base building; capture flags and you can call in reinforcements. Also, while the politics are fantasy, the game - like Deus Ex - takes pleasure in setting its conflicts in recognisable locations. Let's use the training level for an example, as i) It's actually an impressively accurate visual simulacra of Alcatraz Island and ii) It's the only one I played.

Immediately you're overcome with a mass of faults. While the map is detailed, the characters have little or no interest in interacting with it. Those tempting steps up to the building? No, scenery only. At one point, even when there's an obvious clear pathway at least 10ft wide which leads directly to where you want to go, the pathfinding prefers to take the Alcatraz tourist route of the area.

Then you start seeing past the programming faults and realise no-one in the design team had a clue either. The camera wobbles around aimlessly, with a tap of the cursor when fully zoomed out making it lurch far too much to be vaguely controllable. You're introduced to a character's stealth abilities when you're asked to try and sneak past a group of people. "That close?" you think, and then find out it's actually a forced failure. While each soldier has a special ability, the actual combat engagements are utterly meaningless - you click at a far off destination then sit back to let the troops find their own way, killing everyone on the way with no help from you. When finally you get to the hostages you're told you have to clear a way out to avoid risking their lives. Fair enough, but what they actually mean is "Clear every enemy off the island". The level is divided into a long, meandering paths which your foot-soldiers slog around like a bunch of hobbled sloths, leading to excruciatingly annoying backtracking trying to find elusive terrorists. Can't find the last of them, save the game and go and look around online for a solution. There isn't one.

Sighing, I head back into the game and - marvellous! - manage to find one of the errant goits. Hostages march a bit further before the commander says there's some more I have to get rid of before it's safe to leave, despite no enemy of democracy having shown their face in the last twenty minutes or so. Back to the searching - at which point we discover the programmers have got fed up at the bad designers getting all the criticism, and all the holes in the barricades you made during the mission have been magically filled up via the simple process of loading a saved game, rendering the mission uncompletable.
